Some 57% of office occupiers in India say artificial intelligence has had no material impact on their leasing decisions, even as adoption spreads, according to CBRE South Asia’s 2026 India Office Occupier Survey, released in late August 2026.

Of the 200-plus occupiers surveyed, about 93% reported being at some stage of AI implementation, but roughly 59% remain in early or exploratory phases, testing proofs-of-concept and mapping systemic changes before committing capital or restructuring physical assets. For about a third of the cohort, AI is at an advanced or scaled adoption stage, already driving changes in how talent is deployed and how workspaces are used. Around 64% of firms held a neutral-to-positive view of AI’s effect on their workforce, and among GCCs, roughly 95% said they were at some stage of AI adoption.

“While AI adoption is becoming increasingly widespread, business maturity and the pace of deployment will ultimately determine its impact on workforce requirements and, consequently, future leasing decisions,” said Anshuman Magazine, Chairman and CEO – India, South-East Asia, Middle East and Africa, CBRE.

The survey comes as India’s office stock crossed the 1 billion sq ft milestone in Q2 2026, with about 77% of occupiers reporting utilisation above 50% and a similar share expecting their India portfolios to grow over the next two years. While most firms do not expect immediate leasing changes, they are prioritising high-quality workplaces that support talent attraction and advanced technology needs.
