India has long been known for its vast pool of talent, and today, that talent is making a significant mark on the global stage. From technology to business, Indian professionals are not just excelling—they are leading some of the world’s biggest companies and shaping strategies that impact millions worldwide.

While names like Sundar Pichai, CEO of Google, and Satya Nadella, CEO of Microsoft, are well-known, there is a whole league of Indian-origin leaders whose achievements may not always make the headlines but are equally impressive. These professionals are driving innovation, managing operations across continents, and influencing global business in profound ways.

Here’s a look at some of these remarkable Indian-origin C-suite executives who are setting an example for the rest of the world through their vision, skill, and dedication.

Shantanu Narayen, CEO, Adobe

Adobe’s transformation into a global leader in digital experiences is closely linked to the leadership of Shantanu Narayen, who became CEO in 2007. Since then, he has pioneered the shift to a cloud-based subscription model for the Creative Suite, set global standards for digital documents, and built Adobe’s dominance in the digital experience space. Today, he continues to steer the company’s vision, unleashing creativity, accelerating document productivity, and powering digital business worldwide.

Shantanu joined Adobe in 1998, rising through roles from Vice President to President and COO before becoming CEO in 2007. Earlier, he worked at Apple and co-founded the photo-sharing startup Pictra. Under his leadership, Adobe has achieved record growth and earned recognition as both a Great Place to Work and one of Fortune’s Most Admired Companies.

Having started his career at PwC and later joining SolarCity (acquired by Tesla), Taneja has worked closely with Elon Musk through the company’s rapid global expansion, overseeing audits, compliance, and financial strategy.

In 2024, Taneja made headlines for another reason, he earned a staggering paycheck worth $139 million, surpassing even Sundar Pichai of Alphabet and Satya Nadella of Microsoft. His rise underscores how Indian-origin professionals are breaking barriers and excelling in top global roles beyond traditional engineering paths.

Alongside his corporate leadership, Krishna has stayed true to his research roots. He holds 15 patents, has published widely in technical journals, and has served as an editor for IEEE and ACM publications. At 62, he is IBM’s first CEO with a research and engineering background. Drawing on both his technical expertise and business acumen, he is now steering IBM’s future with a focus on artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and quantum technology.

At HSBC, she began as Group Head of Internal Audit and went on to hold several critical roles, including Group Chief Risk Officer, Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, and Head of Wholesale Market and Credit Risk.
