23-year-old engineer Piyush Ashok Kawade ended his life by suicide in the morning of July 28, 2025.

Piyush was a design enginner at Atlas Copco in Pune’s Hinjewadi IT Park, having joined the company in July 2024. As per police reports, Piyush arrived at his office at his regular time. However, he walked out in the middle of his meeting at around 9:30 AM, claiming chest pain.

However, reports suggest that Piyush, a Nashik native, went to the rooftop and jumped from the building to end his life. The police discovered a suicide note allegedly written by him, which is part of the ongoing investigation.

“At first glance, I haven’t seen anything like that yet. The investigation is ongoing, but still what he has written in the suicide note will be thoroughly investigated. Relatives, etc. are coming,” Assistant Commissioner of Police Sunil Kurade told NDTV when asked if there was any work pressure on Piyush.

“A handwritten note was recovered from the body. It is not addressed to any particular individual and reads ‘I would have been a better son. You deserve a better son. I have failed in everything. Please do not waste your time on this. Take care,'” Hinjewadi police’s senior inspector Balaji Pandhare told the Times of India.

“We are deeply saddened by the loss of our colleague, and our thoughts are with his family, friends and loved ones at this time. As a Group, we are offering our support to the family as well as to co-workers of the deceased. The well-being and safety of our employees remains our highest priority, and we are working with the authorities as they investigate the circumstances of this incident,” said Christina Hagerstrand, media relations manager, Atlas Copco Group, in a written statement to The Indian Express.

The tragic death of the young engineer has left his family and friends devastated. Piyush’s younger sister, Pooja, even talked to The Indian Express about how her brother’s passing came as a shock to her. She added how the morning had been like any other. Kawad was staying with his older sister, according to Pooja, and had his breakfast before leaving for the office at around 7:30 AM, as usual.

“He had no problems in his personal life and had no relationship issues as well. He used to enjoy his weekends, as he did the day before this incident on Monday,” Pooja shared.
