The Office of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) under the Ministry of Labour and Employment met senior officers of the Railway Board on 3 November 2026 to strengthen implementation of the Labour Codes, 2020, across Indian Railways operations.
The meeting reviewed institutional coordination, stakeholder consultation and the digital infrastructure needed to operationalise the four Codes inside rail units. Discussions covered upgrades to the Shramik Kalyan Portal so its workflows align with the Code on Wages, the Code on Social Security, the Industrial Relations Code and the Occupational Safety, Health and Working Conditions Code, which came into force on 21 November 2025.
The role of the Chief Labour Commissioner (Central) organisation in facilitating compliance and ensuring ease of doing business was discussed at the meeting. The discussions covered the use of digital platforms, including suggestions for upgradation of the Shramik Kalyan Portal in alignment with the new Labour Codes.
The Railway Board is one of the largest public employers in the country, with workforce arrangements that span permanent, contractual and gig-adjacent categories. Rail operations touch wage compliance under the Code on Wages, social security contributions under the Code on Social Security, and inspection timelines under the OSHWC Code.
