Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Sunday launched EPFO services on WhatsApp, giving over 8 crore subscribers access to their PF balance, latest five transactions, and passbook information through the messaging platform.
The rollout came at the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation’s 74th Foundation Day celebration in New Delhi on November 1, 2026.
Under the new facility, EPF subscribers can access their PF balance, latest five transactions, and passbook information through EPFO’s verified WhatsApp service, along with personalised guidance for completing Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana (PMVBRY) requirements, according to a Labour Ministry statement.
The move is intended to make routine PF services accessible through a familiar mobile platform and reduce the need for office visits.
Speaking at the event, Mandaviya said, “Over its 74-year journey, EPFO has emerged as a trusted institution for the workforce of the country.” He added that the trust is reflected in the Rs 32 lakh crore corpus built through contributions from more than 8 crore members.
Alongside the WhatsApp service, the minister launched the Automatic Settlement of Eligible Inoperative EPF Accounts. Subscribers with Aadhaar-verified inoperative EPF accounts holding balances of up to Rs 1,000 will no longer need to file individual claims. The EPFO will settle these accounts automatically after prescribed identity and bank-account verification. Approximately one lakh accounts involving Rs 5 crore are expected to benefit.
EPFO had earlier launched an official WhatsApp channel in May 2026, which has since grown to over 1.11 lakh followers as of 15 September 2026.
Seven publications on PF law, institutional learning, and legal awareness were also released at the event. Bhavishya Nidhi Awards 2026 were presented to EPFO regional and zonal offices for outstanding contributions.
Mandaviya urged officials to focus on worker-centric innovations across domains in the run-up to EPFO’s 75th year.
The move adds to a wider digital overhaul the retirement body is pursuing, including centralised IT services completed in July 2026 and a planned WhatsApp chatbot for member queries.
