The Railway Recruitment Boards have opened online applications for 1,688 undergraduate-level posts under the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC) recruitment drive, with Class 12 pass candidates eligible to apply through rrbapply.gov.in from 15 October to 13 November 2026.

The recruitment, notified under Centralised Employment Notification (CEN) No. 07/2026, covers four categories of posts across Indian Railways: Trains Clerk, Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk, Accounts Clerk Cum Typist, and Junior Clerk Cum Typist. Candidates must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board, and must be between 18 and 30 years as on 1 January 2027. Posts fall under Pay Level 2 and Level 3 as per the 7th Central Pay Commission, with basic pay ranging from ₹19,900 to ₹21,700 before allowances.

The Railway Board’s approval memo describes the 1,688 undergraduate seats as part of a wider 2026 recruitment plan of 5,165 posts, which also includes 3,477 graduate-level NTPC vacancies notified separately.

“Eligible candidates should check the detailed notification carefully before submitting their applications once the registration window opens on October 15,” the Board said in its public communication accompanying the notice.

Selection will involve a multi-tier process, beginning with Computer Based Tests, followed by a typing or skill test for applicable posts, document verification, and a medical examination. The Board is using Aadhaar-based identity verification at the application stage and noted that the candidate’s name and date of birth must match the Class 10 pass certificate. The Board will allocate zones based on candidate preference and merit.

The drive comes against the backdrop of persistent demand for Class 12 level government employment in India, where RRB NTPC consistently ranks among the most-applied-to central government recruitment exams. The last NTPC undergraduate drive drew millions of applicants, and labour market reports from TeamLease and Naukri have both flagged non-technical clerical categories as sectors where supply continues to outstrip formal openings.
