Hyundai Motor India will invest an additional ₹4,000 crore in Maharashtra by 2030 to nearly double the annual production capacity of its Pune manufacturing plant to 3.2 lakh units, the company’s Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Tarun Garg announced on October 14 in Pune.

The commitment forms part of parent Hyundai Motor Group’s broader USD 15.5 billion India investment pledge announced a day earlier, which spans the period from 2026 to 2032. The Pune facility, launched this week by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis along with Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar and State Transport Minister Uday Samant, currently has a manufacturing capacity of 1.7 lakh units.

“So 4,000 crore definitely will be invested in Maharashtra out of this (USD 15.5 billion) investment. We are looking at much beyond mobility through this investment. How much investment has gone towards this? Rs 7,000 crore has already been invested in Maharashtra. This is a direct investment by Hyundai into Maharashtra,” Garg told reporters on the sidelines of the plant launch. He added that Hyundai Motor India’s vendors have separately invested ₹4,600 crore in the state.

Garg said the Maharashtra ecosystem will help the carmaker lift localisation of the Pune plant from 83% to 92%, and that the company plans to launch 26 new models to utilise the added capacity. Four of those will be electric vehicles, rolling out by 2029, alongside hybrids, as Hyundai targets making 50% of its portfolio sustainable by 2030.

“Maharashtra is going to play a very important role. We are looking at Pune to really provide a great fillip to our plants in India,” Garg added.

The expansion is expected to translate into significant workforce growth across manufacturing and the supplier base. The Talegaon plant expansion is projected to generate approximately 7,600 direct and indirect jobs in Maharashtra. The plant, acquired from General Motors India in 2023-24, began vehicle production in October 2025 and is now a key pillar of Hyundai’s effort to lift combined India capacity past the one-million-units-a-year mark.

Hyundai Motor India, which slipped from the second to the fourth position in domestic passenger vehicle sales in the last fiscal year, is also pushing exports. Garg said the company has crossed four million export shipments from India and intends to grow that further, positioning Maharashtra as both a domestic and export production base.
