Oracle is preparing another round of layoffs before its second fiscal quarter begins on 1 September 2026, with managers reportedly asked to name employees who could be affected.

Some teams could face cuts in the double-digit percentage range, according to the reports. The company has asked managers to identify affected employees ahead of the quarter start, targeting a reduction in payroll costs. Oracle declined to comment on the reports.

The fresh cuts follow a significant reduction already recorded in Oracle’s most recent fiscal year. The company’s workforce shrank by about 21,000 people, a decline of roughly 13%, over the year ending 31 May 2026, bringing total headcount to approximately 141,000.

Oracle spent over $1.84 billion on severance and other restructuring costs during fiscal 2026, according to a company filing. The layoffs come as Oracle borrows heavily to fund an aggressive artificial intelligence data centre buildout. Its capital expenditure for fiscal 2026 reached $55.7 billion, up from $21.2 billion the previous year, and the company raised $43 billion through debt markets and a further $5 billion by selling stock during the year.

For India, the reports carry direct weight. Earlier 2026 rounds affected engineers in the country, and Oracle had previously revoked campus placement and pre-placement offers made to more than 50 final-year students across IITs and NITs, citing internal restructuring and revised headcount targets. India teams were again flagged in worker discussions around the latest round, though the company has not disclosed a target list or confirmed which units will be affected.

The cuts arrive during a broader contraction across the technology sector. Global technology companies announced over 1,63,000 layoffs in 2026, with AI cited as a factor in a large share of those job cuts, according to a TradingPlatforms report. Oracle has reduced its workforce more aggressively than any other company tracked, cutting more than 25,000 roles since January 2026.
