Employee and retiree groups of Rashtriya Ispat Nigam (RINL), the corporate entity that runs the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, have asked the Centre to fast-track the release of pending salaries and welfare payments, arguing the steelmaker has the money to clear them. The appeal was made through a representation to the Prime Minister’s Office and circulated on social media by employee collectives, including VizagSteelFamily.

The groups pointed to the company’s own numbers to make their case. RINL has reported a turnover of ₹36,363 crore over the past two years. The representation states the plant saves around ₹55 crore a month on wage-related spending, holds an emergency reserve fund of over ₹900 crore, and maintains a liquid cash balance of ₹195 crore.

Despite those reserves, several employee-linked payments remain unsettled. These include regular salaries, full and final settlements for beneficiaries under the VRS-2 and VRS-3 schemes, and pension payments to widows and family members of deceased employees.

The associations questioned why welfare payments continue to lag when the company’s operational performance and available reserves suggest it can meet those commitments. Retired employees and families of deceased workers have joined the demand, calling on the Central government to direct management to release all pending amounts without further delay.

RINL, a state-owned integrated steel producer, has been at the centre of sustained employee concern over financial settlements. The renewed appeal keeps welfare payments and VRS dues in focus as stakeholders press for faster resolution.
