The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has close to 746 vacancies open across its centres and autonomous bodies in 2026, spanning scientific, technical, administrative, and apprentice roles, with several application windows running through July and August.
The figure is a running tally of active openings across multiple separate notifications issued by ISRO and the Department of Space, rather than a single advertisement. The largest of these is the recruitment of 244 administrative posts through the ISRO Centralised Recruitment Board (ICRB), covering Assistant, Junior Personal Assistant, Upper Division Clerk, and Stenographer positions. That notification, issued on 27 July 202, invited online applications from 27 July, with a closing date of 16 August 2026.
The administrative vacancies break down into 130 Assistant, 82 Junior Personal Assistant, 22 Upper Division Clerk, and 10 Stenographer posts, spread across ISRO centres in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hassan, Hyderabad, Mahendragiri, New Delhi, Sriharikota, and Thiruvananthapuram. Applicants must be graduates with a minimum of 60% marks and up to 28 years of age, with selection through a computer-based written test followed by a skill test where applicable.
A separate and prominent notification covers 92 Scientist and Engineer ‘SC’ posts across engineering disciplines, filled through Group ‘A’ Gazetted appointments. Candidates for these roles are shortlisted on the basis of their GATE 2025 or GATE 2026 scores and then interviewed. Selected scientists and engineers are placed at Level-10 of the pay matrix with a basic pay of Rs 56,100 per month, alongside standard central-government allowances.
The remaining vacancies in the aggregate are drawn from smaller, unit-level drives, including apprentice openings at ISRO Telemetry Tracking and Command Network (ISTRAC) and technician, technical assistant, and scientific assistant posts at various centres, each carrying its own eligibility criteria and deadline.
For lakhs of general-degree graduates, the ICRB administrative posts represent an uncommon central-government opening at a space agency that does not require an engineering qualification. As one recruitment portal noted, with only 244 seats against an applicant pool that historically runs into several lakhs for such posts, the written examination is expected to be sharply competitive.
