Around 120 employees were asked to resign or were terminated at TV Today Network between 20 and 24 July 2026, in a mass exit that staff say was explained to them as a restructuring exercise, according to a report by Newslaundry.
The company, which operates Aaj Tak and India Today, saw most of the cuts fall on the Aaj Tak Hindi website team, staff said. Others affected worked in camera operations, video editing, graphics, fact-checking, the Data Intelligence Unit and Aaj Tak Radio, with some from the India Today English web team also let go.
Employees described being called into a ground-floor cabin with little warning and asked to hand over their laptops and ID cards the same day.
“Today is your last day. Please submit your resignation,” one staffer said he was told about an hour before his shift ended at the network’s Noida Sector 16 office, as reported by Newslaundry. Another employee, who said he had spent 13 years with Aaj Tak, said no concrete reason was given and that he was not allowed to meet colleagues before leaving. “I feel cheated,” he said.
Staff claimed those who resigned received two months’ full salary, while those who refused and were terminated were to receive two months’ basic pay. Resignations were filed through the third-party HR platform Keka, and several employees said they entered a note stating that management had asked them to step down. Many of those let go earned monthly salaries in the range of ₹25,000 to ₹30,000, staff said. These accounts are based on employee claims that the original report could not independently verify.
The cuts follow a sharp deterioration in the company’s finances. TV Today Network’s consolidated net profit fell about 81% to roughly ₹14 crore in FY26, while revenue from operations declined about 19% to nearly ₹808 crore, according to results reported in May 2026. Softer advertising demand, restructuring costs and losses tied to its radio business, which the company has agreed to sell, weighed on the year.
