Bishwanath Mukherjee has been elevated to Joint President and Head HR for Hindalco’s Mining and Minerals Business, effective January 2026, taking on expanded leadership responsibilities across one of the Aditya Birla Group’s most operationally intensive verticals.
“I’m happy to share that I’m starting a new position as Joint President & Head HR ( Mining & Minerals Business) at Hindalco Industries Limited,” Mukherjee shared on LinkedIn.
In his new role, Mukherjee will oversee the people function for Hindalco’s mining and minerals operations, which span 21 bauxite mines and multiple coal blocks across Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra. The vertical is central to Hindalco’s position as a fully integrated aluminium producer and is currently undergoing significant expansion. In January 2026, the company announced a ₹21,000 crore aluminium smelter expansion in Odisha.
Mukherjee has spent over 22 years with the Aditya Birla Group. He was most recently Senior Vice President and Head HR — Mining and Minerals Business at Hindalco Industries, the role from which he has now been elevated. Before that, he had held a variety of leadership positions at the company.
His tenure at Hindalco has included recognition for people and safety practices at the unit level. The Hindalco Muri Works team received the Gold Award at the National Award for Manufacturing under his watch, and the Birla Copper division at Dahej similarly earned recognition from the International Research Institute for Manufacturing. He holds an MBA from Symbiosis Centre for Management and Human Resource Development, Pune.
