Amazon has reportedly laid off about 500 employees in India. The ecommerce major been in the news for layoffs. Recently, the company was reported to be planning to lay off about 16,000 employees globally. India was reportedly going to be hit harder than ever before
According to media reports, somewhere between 500 and 700 employees were impacted in Amazon India. Software development engineer (SDE) roles accounted for a significant share of the cuts, alongside positions in HR and support functions.
The job reductions mark the latest round of workforce rationalisation at the US technology major, which has been steadily trimming headcount over the past year as it simplifies its organisational structure and sharpens focus on long-term priorities, reported People Matters.
However, Amazon did not immediately respond to ThePeoplesBoard’s queries about the matter
The information was conveyed to the employees via an email sent by an internal note issued by Beth Galetti, senior vice president of people experience and technology. Companies in Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Chennai-based roles are likely to be affected.
