London-based Nothing’s sub-brand, CMF, will be opening its global headquarters in India.
The company stated that it will now use India as its base for operations, R&D, and manufacturing. For this, CMF is partnering with Indian electronics manufacturer Optiemus. The two companies announced a strategic manufacturing joint venture to establish India as a global production and export hub for Nothing and CMF products.
Nothing and Opteimus will be creating more than 1,800 jobs thorugh this initiative.
With this joint venture, Nothing will be investing more than $100 million over the next three years in India’s technological manufacturing industry and will bolster the Make in India initiative. To date, the company has invested $200 million in India.
Through this initiative, CMF aims to create India’s first truly global consumer technology brand – made from India, for the world. By establishing robust manufacturing and export opportunities, Optiemus is solidifying India’s position as a global electronics manufacturing hub.
“India will play a key role in shaping the future of the global smartphone industry. CMF has been well-received by the market since we launched it two years ago. With our end-to-end capabilities, we are uniquely positioned to now build it into India’s first truly global smartphone brand. Our joint venture with Optiemus is a key milestone toward making that vision a reality,” said Nothing CEO Carl Pei.
“This partnership goes beyond high-tech manufacturing – it will empower us to create export-ready products that will be designed in India, showcasing the innovation and talent of our people to the world in the coming years,” said Optiemus Executive Chairman Ashok Gupta. Expressing his enthusiasm for the joint venture with Nothing, Gupta added that global brands choosing India reflect the strength of the ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ initiatives.
