Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is set to shut down its office in Bhopal, as per reports.
The Bhopal office had been operational for 13 years before the apparent decision to close it became effective. The shutdown, as per sources, began in June 2025 and has sparked concerns over the impact on Madhya Pradesh’s economy following the closure. TCS handled business worth about ₹500 crore every year from Madhya Pradesh.
Reports suggest that the shutdown will directly impact around 1,000 employees who were employed at the Bhopal office. While some have seemingly received transfer notices, others remain uncertain about their future job prospects.
In order to voice their concerns, some of the affected employees have, according to reports, reached out to Madhya Pradesh’s Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister Jagdish Devda. In response, Devda has apparently written to TCS Chief Executive Officer (CEO) K. Krithivasan, asking him to reconsider the decision.
Devda seemingly pointed out that the company remains operational in various other tier-2 cities like Ahmedabad, Patna, Lucknow, Bhubaneswar and Kochi, asking that Bhopal should also receive a similar treatment. Additionally, the minister also highlighted how the shutdown will negatively impact Madhya Pradesh’s economy with revenue losses worth crores and disrupted livelihoods.
Update:
In an exclusive statement to People Matters, TCS has clarified that the company is not shutting down the Bhopal office but is merely shifting locations. The statement added that the company remains firm in its continued presence in Madhya Pradesh.
“We consistently evaluate our infrastructure presence across cities. As a part of that, we have shifted our office in Bhopal. We would like to clarify that none of our employees in Bhopal have been impacted, and speculative reports citing job losses are entirely false. TCS remains committed to its growing presence in the state of Madhya Pradesh. We are in the process of expanding our world-class facility in Indore, which currently employs over 10,000 professionals,” TCS told People Matters.
