In the wake of the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025, Games24x7 has initiated the process to lay off approximately 70% of its workforce, which amounts to around 500 employees.

“There were around 700 to 750 employees at Games24X7. The company is now laying off around 70 per cent of them. Around 500 people may be impacted,” a source shared with the Economic Times.

According to The Economic Times, a company staff member has confirmed the layoffs, stating that “the majority of employees” are being laid off, but did not specify the exact number of employees affected.

The layoffs have come after the Indian government banned all forms of online money games on August 21, 2025, by passing the Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Act, 2025. This has led many companies involved in the real-money gaming business to start laying off huge portions of their workforce.

Through this Act, the government wants to prohibit advertisements related to online money games. It also bans banks and other financial institutions from transferring money to these forms of games.

As per the Act, advertisements for online money games can lead to two years in jail and/or a fine of up to ₹50 lakhs. Similarly, allowing trasfer of funds to online money games can result in prison upto three years and/or a fine of up to ₹1 crore.
